Much has already been said about the epic failure of the Capital Police on Wednesday in their attempt to mitigate and control the actions of the mob determined to gain access to legislative chambers. The resignations of the top three Officers of that department is welcome. You would think that the Capital Police would have a robust Crisis Management Plan in place in anticipation of potential civil disobedience. Such plan would have a section on Crisis Escalation Procedures. If such document should be clear and well written with input from all parties which may become involved in the case of a breakout of trouble, thus avoiding response delays to the crisis on the ground. The plan would have clearly identified who to call at various agencies and report the threat level as it is seen at that time. If the plan existed then it hadn’t been tested or its execution was dismal. Something went wrong and we can’t permit it to happen again. Trump’s pledge of a peaceful and orderly transition of power rings hollow. I don’t believe that in his current state of mind he is focused on that. Therefore law enforcement must be prepared to deal with a potential of demonstrations on January 20th when Joe Biden becomes the next President of the United States.
