The presidential election has shown that our nation is in a crisis and the existing division is an illness which must be addressed as much as Covid-19. In the past we have always set aside our differences after the winner was declared. We didn’t claim and election was stolen or suggested civil disobedience. Now we must leave behind collective selfishness and self-centeredness and embrace and reach out to each others. We must never fear those who think differently from us. I often think of Nelson Mandela who could love and forgive the people who hated and jailed him after apartheid died. In our case it is up to President-elect Biden to begin the healing process for our nation. Even his biggest critics admit that he is decent man and good to the core. Biden will reach out with humility to Trump supporters since they are our fellow citizens, relatives and neighbors. He needs to convince over 70 million people who didn’t vote for him that for the sake of the country we must address the real danger to all of us and that is Covid-19. The road to unity is a rough one and healing a broken nation is even harder but a President can’t do it alone, he can set the right tone, but then it is up to all of us to get it done. Yes, we can be one nation under God!
