Yesterday the Supreme Court denied Trump’s assertion of Executive Privilege over White House documents related to the Jan 6th investigation. To the court it was clear that President Biden had the right to declare that some documents could be released to the Select Committee. So starting today the National Archive will turn about 800 documents over to the House Committee. The judges voted 8:1 to deny the Trump motion with Judge Thomas being the only one opposing the denial. The court’s ruling has sweeping implications beyond White House involvement since now other witnesses who refused to testify because they were told that Executive Privilege pertained to them will have no choice but to appear before the committee. I am convinced that Trump saw the court with three judges having been appointed by him as being on his side but in this case they certainly placed country above party loyalty. As judges with integrity should always do. Now we can expect that the Select Committee will receive substantial additional information to address which elected officials knew and in some way supported the plot to interfere in the 2020 election results. We must then recognize that individuals thus identified failed to live up to their oath to the Constitution and their responsibilities to the nation.
