State of Nursing Homes

As the number of casualties of the coronavirus mount very day, we realize the impact of it on our elderly population in Nursing Homes. All along we knew that the elderly were more prone to get infected because of age and previous conditions but we must acknowledge that the outbreak in the US began at a Nursing Home in Washington. These facilities have Nurses on site and Doctors on call, yet residents were seldom moved to hospitals and many lives ended while in the care facility. I believe that at one point in the future, state medical boards need to take a closer look if Nursing Homes are staffed sufficiently to provide adequate care to our loves ones, are inspected rigorously and in a timely fashion and have uniform minimal care requirements across the USA. We must ask if what we have can be improved and not simply say their passing is due to the fact they were old?
