The GOP Convention only mentioned the coronavirus in passing and expressed some superficial empathy for the dead and their loved ones. However, Trump knows fully well that the ongoing virus is a heavy anchor on his re-election campaign. That makes him disregard when Scientists tell him that any medication to mitigate the virus will take development time and must follow the clinical trial process. The trouble is that Trump feels that he can’t wait because the election is only two months away. That is why he makes announcements and claims prematurely on potential cures. It all started with him pushing hydrochloroquine as a miracle drug and now that blood plasma is the new breakthrough. Let us be clear about one thing, we all wish for a drug to mitigate COVID-19 but in Trump’s case it may be more of a self serving gesture rather than real concern for us. You can expect him to maintain pressure on the CDC and FDA to publish misleading information.
