One of the articles mentioned in the impeachment proceedings against Trump was the gross abuse of power by a sitting President. All Republicans were silent on that issue in the hearings and now we even have some who bought in to Trump’s rhetoric that he won the election. But Saturday’s telephone conference call between Trump, his Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and two of his lawyers to the Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, his deputy and staff lawyer leaves no doubt that the President was involved in election tampering and abusive of power. In that call he resorted to his standard mode of operation of lies, hyperbole, bullying, slander and outright threats. Not only did he repeat every election falsehood mentioned by QAnon and Trump friendly news outlets but highlighted the conversation by bluntly asking Brad Raffensperger to come up with11780 votes so he can claim he won in Georgia. The Georgia Secretary of State was not intimidated by Trump’s antics and stood firm on his position that the election result was correct. The President and his allies in the call showed a complete contempt for democracy and the really sad part is that they made no bones about it. The recording of that call is the most damaging tape since Watergate. Now the question is if Republicans will again remain silent on such explosive information or will they finally speak out?
